It seems this year winter has shown up all at once on the farm first rain, then snow then warm temps and more snow and rain........That is the perfect recipe for MUD!!! Stinky soupy yucky mud. This is my least favorite time of year on the farm . Living south of my little town means we have a little warmer temps than most farms in the area. Those who live north are beautiful picturesque, snow covered pastures and barns. Down here we get Brown! Brown grass, brown mud, brown trees. Just brown. But I won't complain much because we do get green much sooner. The problem with half thawed mud is it makes chores take forever. Slipping and sliding trying to push the wheel barrow, trying not to get stuck in the truck putting out hay for the cows. Not to mention bushing muddy milk cows before they can be milked! Running late for trims and muddy horses and slipping and sliding and freezing in the cold all day. This time of year after I am an done with everything I do the last thing I want to do is stand in the kitchen for hours making a meal from scratch. This time of year, convenience foods and take out look pretty appealing even though I know my body will hate me if I eat them. This is where I love my Crock Pot! With my busy Days I may not know what I want for dinner but I can assure I have many choices if I start some meat in the Crock pot. So here is how I start! It may seem pretty simple but it is a life saver for the busy family! Rocky Ridge I don't Know what I want for Dinner Stewed MeatIngredients:
I usually pull it out of the crock pot and then shred in a bowl and keep warm while I decide what super fast recipe I am going to use it in. Meat can also be frozen and saved to thaw out and use at a different time.
